If You Got Hit by a Bus Tomorrow… What Breaks First?

Well… probably your bones. And then, yeah…bigger problems after that, but that’s not really what I’m getting at.What actually breaks first isn’t physical. It’s everything you didn’t organize.

If something happened to you tomorrow, your financial life gets handed off to the people closest to you. Often with zero instructions.  Accounts are scattered, passwords are unclear, and important documents are nowhere to be found.  Now, the ones you care about the most are stuck up creek without a paddle. They are left to piece everything together during an already difficult time. They’re guessing and hoping not to miss anything important.

That’s what really breaks… not your portfolio, but the lack of clarity. Good financial planning isn’t just about you. It’s about making sure your life still makes sense to someone else if you’re not around to explain it.

The good news is you don’t need anything complicated. A simple list of accounts, a way to access them, basic estate planning documents, and few clear instructions go a long way. You don’t need perfection. You just need to get your ducks in a row before you go.

“They’ll figure it out” isn’t a plan.

At the end of the day, this isn’t about planning for the worst, it’s about making things easier for the people you care about most.
